On Saturday afternoon I stopped at Starbucks to get two soy green tea lattes and then pick a friend up from the airport. She was very grateful, but picking her up was a no-brainer. I didn’t have any plans, and I live less than 15 minutes away from the airport. Seems like the obvious choice, but it was more than that.
I have done my fair share of traveling in my lifetime, and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had to pay for transportation to or from the airport. I’ve almost always had a friend or family member happily volunteer to take me even when I felt guilty because I thought it was too far, too late, or too early. Those airport rides have ended up being some of the most treasured intimate moments with loved ones that would have never happened otherwise.
I feel fine about using a ridesharing app, but there’s nothing like coming home from a long trip and having a smiling face waiting for you, reminding you that you are loved. Getting to be that smiling face for someone else is equally as rewarding in its own special way.
