I’ve never been a fan of waking up early. I find my bed to be the most comfortable and comforting place in the world. Sleep is like a peaceful daily oasis that leaves me renewed and refreshed; sometimes I find that special place twice daily if I indulge in a nap.
However, I’ve recently become aware of the many benefits of waking up early. I’ve noticed that many people I admire are early birds. This awareness has led me to some minor changes in my morning routine (which previously consisted of me waking up at the last possible second and bolting out the door). Now I’m gradually waking up a few minutes earlier every week and it’s still a shock to my sleepy system, but the benefits are already rolling in. I like starting off the day with a calm and mellow demeanor. It sets the tone for the way I handle any challenges that may arise and I feel like it’s helped me to just really be present with each moment and fully enjoy and experience it.
Since we all have different schedules, it’s not so much about what time you wake up, but what you do with those first moments of the day. I’m starting to look at that time as a sacred self-care ritual and that has changed my mentality toward mornings. Here are some morning ritual ideas that really resonate with me. I’ve already started doing a couple of them, but most are ideas that I would still like to incorporate into my routine.
My next 8 blog posts will highlight each of these ideas separately so I can provide some more resources and information on each one. If there’s anything you’d like me to add, please let me know. I’m always open to new ideas and suggestions.
In the meantime, I’d like you to think about what your ideal morning ritual looks like and start crafting it day by day. It’s not about perfection; it’s about practice. Besides, you deserve it.
